I am Gustavo M. Marchani, a biologist and synthetic biologist from Peru 🇵🇪 where i delved into paleontology, ecology, and ethnobotany. My academic journey led me to the University of British Columbia, in Canada 🇨🇦, where I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
I am passionate about phototrophs 🌿 (plants, microalage, and cyanobacteria) and particularly fascinated by the intersection of biotechnology, sustainability, and arts. Some of the areas I am actively involved are synthetic biology's potential to harness the wonders of bioluminescence, colors, and scents.
Driven by a desire to bridge science and creativity, I joined an iGEM team in Peru winning the iGEM Design League Grand Prize in 2021. After that, I founded the UBCO iGEM Club and led two teams to the iGEM Giant Jamboree in Paris winning a Gold and Silver medal.
I want to build a more vibrant and sustainable future, and I'm eager to explore the endless possibilities ahead.
